Game One Hundred and Thirty - Mariners Sweep the Sox

It started off so well.  Crisp got on to the lead off the game.  Then things started to go south.  In a bad hit and run, the Mariners got a double play.  Things sorth of muddled along from there.  Snyder pitched ok, struggling to get people out. He completely melted down in the 5th, giving up a grand slam to Raul Ibanez.  The Red Sox defense looked a bit lost in the outfield again, although Hinske had a great grab out in right field to provide an opportunity to cheer for the Red Sox.

The Mariners fans were particularly surly at the game.  Must have been the futility of losing 11 in a row to knock themselves out of the AL West before taking 5 of 6 from the Yankees and the Red Sox.

Pedroia is struggling at the plate, but he did work his way through some epic at bats where he worked the count and got a number of pitches.  I am also beginning to think that Crisp is having problems seeing the ball at the plate and in the field.  He just doesn't seem comfortable in either place.

I missed both of the home runs as I went to get more beer and a hot dog.  Perhaps I needed to go get more hot dogs.

Game One Hundred and Twenty-Four - Bats Fail Wells as Yankees Sweep the Sox

More a baseball score and almost a surreal ending to a series that saw so many runs, but the result was the same.

Off to the West Coast tomorrow with Snyder on the mound.  Perhaps the jet lag will help the Red Sox get focused.

Final Score:  Yankees 2, Red Sox 1

Current Record:  69 wins, 55 losses

Game One Hundred and Twenty Three - Papelbon Cannot Save the Sox

Another game with the Yankees, another loss.

Schilling pitched well except the 3 run homer to Giambi.  Timlin and Lopez stumbled out of the gate in the 8th, giving Papelbon a bases loaded noboy out jam to work out of.  He did, but he gave up a run.  In the 9th, Papelbon started his own trouble by giving up a double, which a pass ball put a man on third.  2 strikes away from a tortured win, he gave up the game tying hit to Jeter.

The Sox had a chance to get some runs in the bottom of the 9th, but Youklis showed he is not a good bunter and nobody could get a hit to score a single run.  Hansen pitched in the 10th in which he struggled and gave up 2 home runs and the game.

The pitching just can't get it done.  The bats are just not in synch, leaving too many men on base.

Final Score:  Yankees 8, Red Sox 5

Current Record:  69 wins, 54 losses

    The Massacre Continues...

Now he has given up a two run home run.  Ouch.
This was an interesting, epic game that has turned into a nightmare.

    Timlin Continues to Struggle

A base hit to Damon and he plunked Jeter on a bad pitch.  Great way to start the 8th.
